I wanted to not likethem because, after all, they are the bad guys. The many sets are unique. A splendid varietyof music and choreography make this one a keeper. I was one of those people who used to watch Donnie and Marie faithfully, but after their show was cancelled I didn't hear much of them. I give it a 10! There is very little wrong with this production and I'm sure that it willhave been in many peoples Christmas stocking. I knew this movie was a hit when I showed it to my husband, daughter and son and all three loved it immediately. The characters were just as good as on the stage and Donny Osmond fitted the part perfectly, another thing I was adamant about at first being a strong Jason Donovan supporter!! The musical, like every decent child, grew and developed.
However, I especially like Those Canaan Days, and Jeff Blumenkrantz Simeon does it stylishly. When the brothers attempt to depart, Joseph stops them, accusing them of theft. The only objectionable, albeitquick scene could be with Mrs. Clever lyrics, singable tunes, and a very lovable Pharaoh. I have only two little complaints.
He works hard and is promoted, eventually running the household. It really lifts me up. I have seen Joseph once in person on Navy Pier in Chicago, but it wasn't half as good as this! There werea few raised eyebrows when it was announced that Donny would be playing thelead role, but all misgivings are swept away as he makes the part all hisvery own, with a mixture of playful charm and vitality. Normally I wouldn't care for something that was akin to an opera allthe lyrics being sung and would skeptical about any Hollywood didregarding the Bible figuring it would be distorted but - once again -I was surprised. He's adequate in every scene? I was familiar with the Biblical story of Joseph, but that is not required for the viewer to be entertained. I guess the Osmond is a lot moretalented than people give them credit for, and I won't make thatmistake again. But they made me laugh morethan anything else, which I believe was the whole point. Donny Osmond was a good choice for the part because he is well known for having strong religious and family ties and for being a goody two shoes this is why I thought he was making fun of his clean cut image. Let's make it clear that Joseph is the special one: a musical that'scolorful. He's adequate in every scene as youngconceited dreamer, as stoic prisoner, as Brilliant Pharaoh's number two, buthe is best of all in the end.
