When Freddie joins a rock band with other college students, he brings his flamboyant stage presence and incredible vocal range with him. He does a phenomenal job as do the other actors, including Lucy Brown as Mary. Women wear low-cut tops that reveal cleavage in several scenes throughout the movie.
Sex and drugs are implied but not explicit. A man looks at a woman with interest and remarks about her coat. I will admit I read all the reviews here and was worried about my son. First, let me say that we loved the movie!!! Men argue about a recording contract and one man puts a cigarette out on papers on another man's desk. Video reviews with voiceovers explain some of the content of movies and provide a brief overview of the movie for those who dislike reading.
A man walks through a gay bar and we see other men shirtless and bare-chested dancing together, holding and caressing each other; one man is shown wearing a leather hood on his head and face and being led by another man holding a leash. A shirtless man bare chest, back and abdomen are seen sits on a sofa next to a woman with a blanket wrapped around her cleavage is seen and proposes to her; they then kiss. This is easily seen by looking at any number of the videos on YouTube comparing the original performance and the movie's depiction of it. The band sees moderate success at first, and then some major success when they hire a manager and create some of the most iconic hits rock music has ever seen. By early 2016 Whishaw and Fletcher had abdicated the project.
While there's quite a bit of drinking including to excess , as well as characters taking cocaine, the movie isn't as edgy as you might expect for the subject and era. It's still impressive and very much worth the wait, as is the energized recording of the title song, a joyous circus of creative abandon. No violence I can think of, also a few swear words here and there. Our ratings and reviews are based on the theatrically-released versions of films; on video there are often Unrated, Special, Director's Cut or Extended versions, usually accurately labelled but sometimes mislabeled released that contain additional content, which we did not review. I loved the music as well as the uncanny portrayal of Freddie Mercury by Malek. I think my kids missed it completely. Wear what you want, take chances, believe in your ideas. Like many musical biopics, the movie boasts a strong central performance and inspiring song performances, but the rest is pretty routine. Enter, again, Dexter Fletcher, to finish shooting.

Two men drink beers and smoke cigarettes, two men smoke cigarettes in a room, men smoke cigarettes in a recording studio, a man smokes in an office, a man smokes a cigarette while playing the drums in a few scenes, a man smokes on stage in a few scenes, and men smoke cigarettes in an office. I had to do a double take on the actor playing Bob Geldof Dermot Murphy and Gwilym Lee is almost indistinguishable from real footage of Brian May. Nothing more appalling than the aftermath of most college parties, frankly. I also appreciated the positive messages it gave. Rami Malek delivered a fantastic performance as young Freddie right down to the looks and voice, but the way the script was written and how it was driven was suprisingly clunky and made it as though Malek wasn't doing a good job though he was really embodying the character and going for it. In the film, presumably, because it was among the first scenes shot, the actor's hair was significantly longer.
There are multiple scenes of cocaine use, a promotion of promiscuous behavior, and of course Freddie Mercury's drinking binges combined with his exploration of various lifestyles. What's notable is that the 1st half of the film Freddie is Heterosexual, the second half he is a Homosexual. That's all I have to say, thank you for reading my review. When their lead singer quits, Freddie gets the job. All in all - a great movie for young dudes to see.

As history knows, of course, the song goes on to become one of the biggest, most beloved rock and roll hits of all time. There are scenes involving a character clearly under the influence of drugs, but he is not shown taking them, and they are never named.
Also -wonderfully acted, beautifully shot, music was great. My kids are aware of the aforementioned lifestyles; however, it's the promoting of promiscuity, alcoholism and promiscuity that makes me question the rating. But then he meets Brian May Gwilym Lee , Roger Taylor Ben Hardy , and John Deacon Joseph Mazello and the four combine their talents to form the glam rock band. A man walks through a crowded party and smacks a scantily clad woman on the clothed buttock we see her bare back with a bikini strap across the back and very short bottoms that reveal her bare leg to the hip.
